A Sense of Belonging
For this Mother and son fleeing an unsafe relationship, a warm home is a sanctuary and more. It is a daily reminder that they are building a new life together, step by step, after months of tireless work. Furnish with Love volunteers helped create a space that surrounds them with all the things they love. Mom has the elegant pink bedroom of her dreams and her super smart son has space for his computer, science, stars, and animals.
Nominated by City of Refuge, the family is so thoughtful and giving that Mom left what she called her “first ever attempt” at a charcuterie board on the kitchen island so our volunteers would have snacks while they worked, and she programmed her tv screen to thank us. Mom, son, and their sweet doggie were joyous and excited when they returned home. Mom said her place now looks like “luxury.” Our favorite line came from her ten-year-old son. He simply said, “It looks like I belong here.”
